Red Carpet Confidence Begins with a Great Smile

With the 94th Academy Awards just around the corner, the time for glitz and glamor is quickly approaching. For many, tuning into the show to catch the latest movie buzz is a tradition. For us, it’s a nice escape as we get a sneak peek at everything glam—from outfit styles, to what’s trending in updo’s, jewelry and shoes—each of Hollywood’s finest and most beautiful stepping out looking impeccable and flawless. And while each stand out from the others in meticulously chosen looks, all have one thing in common—an underlying denominator that radiates Hollywood royalty. Can you guess what it is? If you guessed, ‘an amazing smile’—you are right. If you said, ‘oozing with confidence’—right again! If you missed, ‘great teeth’ however, you missed a big one.

RED CARPET CONFIDENCE

That beautiful smile – with picture perfect teeth—seems to be a must in Hollywood. In fact, an article printed in the New York Times a few years back put the number of Hollywood actors who undergo cosmetic dental care at 80 percent. We would surmise that number being much higher today with the infusion of posts, selfies, and Tik Tok videos now part of their daily barrage of exposure—exposure that must radiate not only beauty, but confidence as their image and internal persona are important when attempting to land that next starring role. Is there anything wrong with this? Absolutely not! For the actor or for you.

The effects of perfectly straight teeth bring more than just outer beauty. Along with an investment in one’s health, there is nothing like a beautiful smile to radiate self-confidence. Just like our Hollywood actors, self-confidence can be seen and felt not only by the individual, but by those watching and/or measuring one’s persona or character, whether at a meeting, a job interview, or just out and about, a confident smile ups the ante both internally and externally.

BETTER HEALTH

We also mentioned how a radiant smile can lead to better health. The way this works is simple: Every time you smile, muscles in your face activate, leading your brain to release happy hormones—called endorphins. This leads to a genuine boost in your immune system, which of course, helps keep you healthy.

Meanwhile, studies have shown that individuals feeling self-conscious of their less than perfect teeth (or smiles), may experience oral health issues, such as tooth decay or gum disease. Issues such as these compounding the initial problem, making it that much more difficult to treat and fix.

TRUSTWORTHY

Finally, a person who radiates confidence also exudes trustworthiness. Think about it, if you had to choose between two neighbors to care for your pet while you vacation out of town, do you gravitate to the neighbor who sulks, never smiles, or barely lifts his head when outdoors? Or do you gravitate to the cheerful, approachable neighbor who easily strikes up a conversation and seems genuinely happy to see you—and your pet? The answer to both—and the reason behind it—very easy. A great smile brings out warmth, love and compassion, while hiding a smile gives the impression of a dark, unfriendly persona that could lead one to believe something more is being hidden than just imperfect teeth.

So, with everything that comes from having a great smile and perfect teeth—confidence, health and trustworthiness—don’t delay in coming to see us. We are happy to provide you with an assessment of what needs to be done to get that smile of yours radiating as it should be, so that you can walk the red carpet as you deserve to be.

When looking at the science behind the effects of smiling, researchers talk about the chemicals released when smiling. A study conducted by the Henry Ford Health System resulted in two important hormones released that help a person’s mood: Cortisol and Endorphins. When released, a decrease in blood pressure, stress and pain were detected, with some research even indicating a better immune system occurs when smiling. A person also becomes more likeable, which in-turn boosts self-confidence. Another study by Psychology Today even produced results showing how smiling can lengthen a person’s life.
