Medicaid and Braces

All 50 States are obligated by Federal Law to offer dental benefits to children enrolled in Medicaid through CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program), as you may already be aware. The dental benefits provided are as follows:

  • Routine check-ups
  • Teeth Cleaning
  • Treatment of tooth pain or infection
  • Tooth restoration

Many people ask us if we accept Medicaid for our treatments at The Smile Shoppe Orthodontics. However, the real question is whether Medicaid covers braces. Unfortunately, Medicaid no longer covers orthodontic care since 2012. Although we would have been willing to work with Medicaid coverage in the past, it is no longer an option. Medicaid does not cover braces.

Therefore, The Smile Shoppe Orthodontics offers interest-free, in-house financing with minimal down-payments, no credit checks, and affordable monthly payments to assist families and individuals in receiving the necessary orthodontic care. We strive to make high-quality orthodontic care accessible to everyone.

Medicaid Coverage for Braces

Orthodontic care for children under 21 may still be covered by Medicaid if a physician determines it is necessary due to a serious medical condition like cleft palate or lip, or serious congenital defects. It is crucial to understand that these conditions can lead to significant chewing or digestive problems, which may require treatment to prevent major health issues later on. Medicaid will only consider coverage under these circumstances. In extremely rare cases, Medicaid may cover the cost of braces for adults if there is a critical medical need.

At The Smile Shoppe Orthodontics, we recognize the challenges of receiving treatment without Medicaid coverage. To address this, we provide various payment options to assist you or your child in achieving a healthy and beautiful smile. Our initial step is a complimentary consultation, which includes a

comprehensive examination, photographs, and x-rays to determine the necessary extent of treatment. Our board-certified orthodontists, Dr. Alessandra Chacon and Dr. Ryan Reyes will then discuss all available treatment options and address any inquiries you may have. Lastly, our office will collaborate with you to create a payment plan that suits your family's specific needs.
